Concessions and rebates for electricity and gas

Think you may be entitled to a concession or rebate?

You may qualify for various concessions that we can provide on behalf of the NSW Government. For more information about the NSW Government rebates, visit their Energy and utilities page. To see if you may be eligible for a rebate on your energy account, check the eligibility criteria for each rebate below.

  • If you or someone at your address depends on life support equipment that’s electrically operated, you may be entitled to a rebate.

    Am I eligible?

    You’re eligible if:

    • Your life support equipment is prescribed by a medical practitioner for the treatment of a life-threatening condition.
    • The address you’re applying for is the sole or principal place of residence of the applicant.

    You use any of the following electrically operated life support equipment:

    • home dialysis machines
    • oxygen concentrator
    • ventilators
    • total parenteral nutrition
    • Positive Airways Pressure (PAP) devices
    • phototherapy equipment
    • enteral feeding pump
    • external heart pump
    • electric mobility devices for quadriplegics.

    You may be entitled to a higher rebate if:

    • You use a Positive Airways Pressure (PAP) device or oxygen concentrator 24 hours a day. Your medical practitioner will need to specify 24-hour use of the device on the application form.

  • If you or a member of your household are unable to self-regulate body temperature, you may be entitled to this rebate.

    Am I eligible?

    You’re eligible if you hold a:

    • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
    • Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card
    • Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card or Gold Card

    AND

    You have a medically-diagnosed inability to self-regulate body temperature.

    AND

    You reside in NSW.

  • This rebate is designed to help eligible families manage their energy costs and will appear as a credit on your bill.

    Am I eligible?

    You’re eligible for this rebate if:

    • You’re eligible for and receive the Commonwealth Government’s Family Tax Benefit A or B.
    • You are the direct electricity plan holder (this means your name appears on your electricity bill, solely or jointly) OR you are a long-term resident of a residential park and you pay the park owner for your electricity.
    • You live in NSW.

  • The NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate (formally known as the Energy Rebate) is paid in instalments on your electricity bill. The exact amount of the rebate paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in each billing period.

    The Low Income Household Rebate is intended to assist eligible customers with their household electricity costs.

    Am I eligible?

    To be eligible, the account holder must hold one of the following concession cards:

    • Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs.
    • Centrelink Health Care Card.
    • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate or Extreme Disablement Adjustment rate pensions).

    A concession can be claimed only if:

    • The energy account is in the name of the concession card holder
    • The supply address is the domestic primary residence of the card holder and
    • The energy account is billed on a residential pricing plan.

    The following cardholders are ineligible:

    • Centrelink Child Disability Healthcare cards
    • Centrelink Foster Care Healthcare cards
    • DVA Dependent and Specific Conditions cards
    • Commonwealth State Seniors cards
    • Commonwealth Seniors Health cards

    Apply for the Low Income Household Rebate

    Add a concession card to your account through My.ActewAGL. You’ll need:

    • Your concession card.
    • Your ActewAGL electricity and/or gas account number.

  • The NSW Government Gas Rebate is paid in instalments on your gas bill. The exact amount of the rebate paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in each billing period.

    The Gas Rebate is intended to assist customers with their household gas costs.

    Am I eligible?

    To be eligible for the NSW Gas Rebate, you need to:

    • be resident in New South Wales and
    • be a customer of ActewAGL, or a long term resident of an on-supplied residential community, or a resident of an on-supplied retirement village, or a resident of an on-supplied strata scheme; and whose name appears on the gas account for supply of natural gas to his or her principal place of residence; and hold one of these cards:
      • Pensioner Concession Card issued by the DHS/DVA
      • DHS Health Care Card
      • DVA Gold Card marked with:
        • War Widow or War Widower Pension or
        • Totally and Permantly Incapacitated (TPI) or
        • Disability Pension (EDA).

    The following cardholders are ineligible:

    • Centrelink Child Disability Healthcare cards
    • Centrelink Foster Care Healthcare cards
    • DVA Dependent and Specific Conditions cards
    • Commonwealth State Seniors cards
    • Commonwealth Seniors Health cards.

    Apply for the Gas Rebate

    Add a concession card to your account through My.ActewAGL. You’ll need:

    • Your concession card.
    • Your ActewAGL electricity and/or gas account number.

  • You may qualify for EAPA if you are a NSW resident.

    The EAPA scheme helps people who are financially disadvantaged and having a hard time paying their electricity or gas bill. This usually happens because of a crisis or emergency situation. It is a short-term option and not available on an ongoing basis.
