Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who determines electricity prices?
ActewAGL sets electricity prices for our customers in the ACT and NSW. These prices are subject to government regulation, and can change around 1 July each year.
In the ACT
The price of standard electricity contracts is regulated by the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission (ICRC). Every year the ICRC releases a decision on how much ActewAGL can change the pricing of its regulated residential and small business electricity tariffs.
The price of market electricity contracts is at the discretion of ActewAGL.
In NSW
The price of standard electricity contracts is regulated by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER). The AER sets a ‘reference price’ for specific residential and small business tariffs in each network area. The price of ActewAGL’s standard electricity contracts is set equal to the reference price.
The price of market electricity contracts is at the discretion of ActewAGL. ActewAGL is required to compare all of our offers to the appropriate reference price.

Who determines natural gas prices?
ActewAGL sets natural gas prices for our customers in the ACT and NSW. We review our standard contract gas pricing yearly and it can change around 1 July. Market offer gas prices are also generally adjusted annually, and generally change in July.
A change can reflect the cost of supplying natural gas to our customers, including changes to wholesale gas prices and network charges.
