ENERGY USE

Seal draughty gaps and save.

Apr 12, 2023

Draughty gaps along with cracks in windows, doors and skylights can jump your heating bill up as much as 25% in the winter. However, replacing entire doors and windows can be expensive, so weather stripping can be a cost-effective solution.

Identify and locate all the gaps where the air is escaping, then choose the most suitable weather stripping, such as foam, felt, vinyl or metal, which can be purchased from your local hardware store. Then sealing the gaps is as easy as one, two, three.

  1. Clean the surface and measure the material leaving a bit extra that can be trimmed.
  2. Apply the stripping and press down firmly.
  3. Test it to make sure there are no remaining draughts.
