Kidsafe ACT is a well-loved local charity that aims to prevent and reduce unintentional childhood injury and death. It provides a range of frontline services including child car seat installation, home and pedestrian safety advice, research, education and government advocacy.
ActewAGL, Canberra’s leading energy provider, has included Kidsafe ACT in its 2024 Community Grants program to help them make a meaningful and lasting difference for local children.
ActewAGL’s Community Grants program continues to provide much-needed funding to benefit environmental sustainability, at-risk and disadvantaged populations, community engagement and innovation.
Community Grants funding has been provided by ActewAGL to Kidsafe ACT to launch several initiatives aimed at raising awareness about electricity safety amongst local children. This includes a comprehensive education program in schools and stronger outreach to migrant and low socio-economic status families.
In response to the new collaboration, Francis Ventura, CEO Kidsafe ACT said, “ActewAGL has been powering Canberra homes and supporting local community organisations for decades. This grant will enable us to reach thousands of people in the ACT and surrounding region with important information on safety around electricity that will directly benefit the safety of their kids”.
Rachael Turner, ActewAGL General Manager Retail said, “We’re proud to support the amazing work Kidsafe ACT does for our community. For over 40 years, they’ve made our region safer for kids and supported parents through child injury prevention services. As a local business ourselves, their passion for making meaningful and lasting change for local families has really resonated with us”.
Francis said, “Canberra is Australia’s best city. Our vision is for Canberra to be the safest place to be a kid, and the best place to raise a kid. As a father of a little baby, this is now personal for me. We know that it takes only a split second or a minor oversight for a family’s life to be potentially ruined forever, which is why we want to expand our services to keep kids safe”.
