ActewAGL supports safety and security of vulnerable women and children through community grant to Beryl Women Inc.

24 October 2024

Beryl Women Inc., a Canberra-based organisation supporting women and children fleeing domestic violence, has been awarded a vital grant from ActewAGL as part of the local energy provider's 2024 Community Grants program. This funding will enable Beryl Women Inc. to strengthen the safety and security of its clients by installing security camera systems in three of its ACT properties, offering much-needed peace of mind to women seeking refuge from dangerous situations.

ActewAGL’s Community Grants program continues to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the Canberra community. By supporting Beryl Women Inc., ActewAGL is supporting vulnerable women and children accessing safety, security and the support they need to rebuild their lives after escaping domestic violence.

“We remain committed to supporting vulnerable members of the local community, and this grant is part of our commitment to making a real difference,” said Rachael Turner, General Manager Retail at ActewAGL. “Beryl Women Inc. is Australia’s longest running domestic violence refuge, providing support and services for women and their children. ActewAGL has previously completed energy efficiency upgrades at Beryl Women Inc. properties, and through our Community Grants, we welcome the further opportunity to support the safety, security and comfort of women and children accessing care.”

Gabriela Budilová, Chief Finance Officer, Beryl Women Inc. said, "This grant from ActewAGL means that women in our temporary accommodation will feel safer and more secure as they start their journey toward healing – security is one of the key factors in creating a space where victims of domestic violence can truly begin to recover".

The new security systems, including live camera feeds and footage playback, will give families greater control over their environment. They will be able to monitor property activity, adding an extra layer of protection as they rebuild their lives.
