Frequently asked questions

  • Are your installers experienced?

All appliance installers meet the licensing requirements for our Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme and have completed the required training. The licence classes and/or training requirements are:

    • Electrician: unrestricted electrician licence.
    • Gasfitter: general gasfitter or advanced gasfitter licence.
    • Ductwork: installers have successfully completed ‘Install and Test Ducting Systems’ training provided by a registered training organisation.

How do I lodge my claim?

You don’t need to lodge a claim as the discount is applied at the time of sale.

What documents do I need to receive a concession rebate?

You’ll need to present your eligible concession card and evidence that you live at the installation address at the time of sale.

If you don’t hold an eligible concession card, but are experiencing financial hardship, you may be eligible for a concession rebate with a referral from a specified community organisation or if you’re accessing ActewAGL’s Staying Connected hardship program. Find out more at the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate website.

Who do I call if there is an issue with my new heater?

Contact the approved retailer who installed the appliance.

Why can’t I select another brand or heater type?

The product needs to meet the requirements of the Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme Act and be approved by ActewAGL.

  • What appliances are eligible?

    The appliance must be:

    • A ducted reverse-cycle system with a heating capacity between 11.2kW and 25kW.
    • Purchased and installed by an approved retailer.
    • Replacing a ducted natural gas heater.

My home has no access to replace the ducting. Am I still eligible to receive the discount?

To be eligible for the discount, our installers will need access to replace the existing ducting.

Why does my ducting need to be upgraded as part of the installation?

Ducting can deteriorate over time, allowing heated air to escape into your roof space or underfloor area. Older ducting is also unlikely to be the recommended R-1.5 rating required under the terms and conditions.

Will I continue to receive the three year discount if I am no longer an ActewAGL electricity customer?

No, the three year ongoing discount is only available to ACT residents who are ActewAGL electricity customers.

  • What appliances are eligible?

    The appliance must be:

    • A reverse-cycle system with a heating capacity between 6.8kW and 8kW.
    • Purchased and installed by an approved retailer.
    • Replacing a natural gas flued heater.

My flued heater has been removed, how do I organise to repair my wall?

You can choose any contractor to repair your wall at your own expense.

  • Yes.

If you are experiencing financial hardship or are an eligible concession card holder, you may be eligible for further savings on this upgrade.

When upgrading your natural gas flued heater, you can get up to $2,500* off the purchase price of your new reverse-cycle air conditioning unit, plus $500* total credit on your quarterly ActewAGL electricity bill over three years ($41.67 per quarter).
